Hunter Lawrence earned the holeshot in the Spring Creek National in Round 24 of the SuperMotocross World Championship at Millville, Minnesota, and rode away from the field. He crossed the finish line nearly 17 seconds ahead of Jett Lawrence.
Jett survived a first turn incident to finish Lap 1 in second. When Hunter built his lead, Jett was unable to contest it after crashing twice in qualification.
Jett was briefly challenged on Lap 1 by Justin Barcia. During this challenge, Jett seemed to ride without a sense of urgency, but he realized that Barcia would be a distraction if he allowed him to stay close.
RJ Hampshire passed Barcia for third on Lap 5 and then settled into a rhythm.
The biggest incident of the moto came in the first turn. Jett had the inside line in a three-wide battle. To his outside, Haiden Deegan gave Jett plenty of room, but he was pinched by Jorge Prado.
Deegan crashed and remounted his bike. He was in the top 20 points earning spots by Lap 3, 15th on Lap 4, and in the top 10 by Lap 11.
Deegan and Eli Tomac, in his first race back since injury, battled for eighth on Lap 13.
Deegan worked his way through the field and on the final lap, he learned why Barcia is called ‘Bam Bam.’ Barcia pushed Deegan off the track. That only fired Deegan up and he managed the pass into fourth.
Barcia rounded out the top five.
Barcia’s Ducati’s teammates, Tony Cairoli and Dylan Ferrandis finished sixth and seventh respectively.
