MOUNT MORRIS, Pennsylvania: Jett Lawrence (1:59.977) posted the fastest overall lap in the second session of qualification for the High Point National and then crashed while taking a slow lap.
Jett was uninjured in the crash, but it effectively ended his session.
The drama of the day was provided by Jett and Haiden Deegan (2:01.318). After posting the fastest lap in the first session, he took the preferred line away from Jett on his final, fast lap. Jett passed Deegan and the bottom of the hill and intentionally roosted Deegan, who ultimately fell to fourth in the final rundown.
In the post-race media briefing, Deegan said of the incident: “I’m sure if they knew what I said, I’d probably get fined. Nah, I’m just playing. It was good. I love banter. It gets me fired up.”
Deegan was unable to back up his quick Q1 time in the second session.
That allowed Hunter Lawrence (2:00.126) to slot into second. Jett and Hunter currently hold the first and second spots in the Pro Motocross championship standings.
Jorge Prado also surpassed Deegan in the second session with a time of 2:00.649.
Mikkel Haarup (2:02.258) rounded out the top five on his Triumph.
Dylan Ferrandis (2:05.427) gave Ducati the 10th fastest overall lap, but he also crashed in the second session. He was slower to rise than Jett after his crash, but was not injured enough to keep him from mounting for Moto 1.
