Jordan Jarvis led from the gate drop to the finish of Moto 2 of the Women’s class of the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, and set up a winner-take-all scenario with Moto 1 winner, Mayla Herrick entering the final round.
Jarvis was determined to avenge he second-place loss to Herrick in the opening race. She jumped out to a two second lead over Piper Bell in the first lap and stretched her advantage over the field to more than 10 seconds as Herrick fought a mechanical issue.
While Jarvis’ advantage was helped by Herrick’s problems, it forced the Moto 1 winner to fight for every yard of dirt. Hannah Hodges and Lilly-Ann Pettus took advantage in the opening laps and pushed Herrick back to fourth in the middle stage.
Following the race, Herrick said she had a throttle issue with her Honda.
Herrick continued to challenge and Hodges briefly lost second to her on the final lap. Hodges withstood the pressure and nipped Herrick at the finish line.
Herrick’s late race surge pushed Pettus to fourth. Pettus finished ninth in the first moto and faces an uphill battle from sixth overall.
Tinley McCoy rounded out the top five. She was 11th in the first moto.
After exchanging moto wins, Jarvis’ one-point lead essentially sets up a winner-take-all scenario for the final race, but with finishes of third and second, Hodges is poised to take advantage if either the leaders stumble.
