Justin Barcia out of SMX finale with injury, ends Ducati career early

Justin Barcia will skip the SuperMotocross Playoffs finale at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, Missouri, due to an ongoing ankle injury.

This will end his tenure with the Troy Lee Designs Factory Ducati team.

“Sadly, have to say this, but last weekend at LA was my last race with the TLD Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing Team,” Justin Barcia said in a news release. “I unfortunately twisted my ankle in the first moto and tried to ride this week but it’s not in the cards for me.

“Bummed to end it like this but overall, it’s been a hell of a journey. I want to say thank you to the whole team for being behind me through this year on this brand-new bike. Everyone worked hard this year and I think we did a pretty good job at the end of the day.”

Chance Hymas’ injury also means that he will be unable to competed in the Motocross of Nations.

Barcia was injured in the Supercross season and missed much of the season, returning to competition in Philadelphia in April. He narrowly missed scoring a top- in 11th, but rectified that in his next round in Denver, finishing eighth.

Barcia scored a season-best finish of fifth in Pro Motocross in the Spring Creek National.

“Justin and his family brought so much energy to our team this year,” said Josh Wisenor, Team Manager of Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing. “They became a big part of the atmosphere around the truck, and that’s something we’ll genuinely miss. Racing is obviously about results, but the people you share those weekends with are what make a team special. Justin was a big part of our first season, and we’re thankful for that.”

Earlier this week, Factory Ducati’s other debut rider, Dylan Ferrandis, announced he will retire from full-time racing.

RJ Hampshire will fill one of the seats in 2027.
