Former Chip Ganassi Racing crew chief and Hendrick Motorsports team engineer Chris Heroy has been named crew chief for the No. 9 Ford of Brian Scott, Richard Petty Motorsports announced Wednesday. Heroy will start his new role immediately.

Heroy replaces Kevin Manion, who left the team last week after it was announced Sam Hornish Jr. would not return as driver of the No. 9 following just one season in that role.

Heroy spent four years as a crew chief for Ganassi with Juan Pablo Montoya and Kyle Larson behind the wheel. His accomplishments in that role include three poles, 14 top-fives, and 37 top-10s.

Heroy has experience with young talent as he oversaw the first two seasons of Larson’s career.

“I’m really excited to join the team,” Heroy said in an RPM media release. “I really enjoyed working with Kyle for his rookie season, and I’m looking forward to working with Brian as he works toward the Rookie of the Year title.”

Scott will run for Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 against a growing field that includes Chase Elliott, Chris Buescher, and Jeffrey Earnhardt. Among those drivers, Scott has the most experience running 10 races last year as a developmental driver for Richard Childress Racing in the No. 33 of Joe Falk.

He scored three top-15s, including a 12th at Kansas Speedway and a 14th at Texas Motor Speedway in his last two starts. Prior to that, Scott made seven starts in 2013 and 2014, winning the pole at Talladega Superspeedway in May 2014.
