Kevin Harvick returns to points lead despite last-lap crash at Talladega

With Carl Edwards being eliminated two-thirds of the way through the race due to a crash, Kevin Harvick regained the Sprint Cup points lead following Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Harvick himself crashed on the last lap of the race but still finished 15th.

He has a nine-point advantage over Kyle Busch, who finished second Sunday.

The top five in the points is filled out by Edwards (-14), Jimmie Johnson (-22) and Joey Logano (-35).

The full-time driver with the biggest gain leaving Talladega is AJ Allmendinger, who rose three spots to 14th despite being in two separate crashes and finishing 14th.

The biggest drop was Denny Hamlin, who fell four spots to 12th.
