“We really liked what we saw in Mike during mini-camp and he continued to impress throughout Summer League,” Hornets GM Rich Cho said. “He is a talented young big man with a lot of potential and we look forward to seeing what he can do moving forward.” Tobey averaged 10.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.0 steals in 20.8 minutes per game during the summer league, but this is basically just a training camp deal and he’s not guaranteed a spot on the 15-man roster.

We don’t expect Tobey to make the roster, so there is no fantasy fallout here.

Even with Cody Zeller (knee) banged up, Tobey failed to make any kind of meaningful impression.

Head coach Steve Clifford said he was comfortable deploying Tobey because he was with the team during training camp, and he was needed tonight with both Cody Zeller (quad) and Miles Plumlee (calf) out of commission. He’s not a fantasy option.

He’ll be backing up Frank Kaminsky at the five-spot, but he’s not going to get enough minutes to matter in any league.

Tobey appeared in 29 games for Greensboro in his first D-League season, averaging 11.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per contest during his four-year career at Virgina. He can be left on the waiver wire in all leagues.

He hasn’t played at all and is just an emergency big off the bench right now.

He was with the team in the preseason. Tobey hasn’t exactly lit it up in the D-League, averaging 11.0 points, 8.9 boards and 0.7 steals. This is a little surprising and he’ll be behind Christian Wood for these 10 days.
