Gus Edwards (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
This isn’t much of a surprise as Edwards is coming off his first game in over a month because of the ankle issue. He was activated from injured reserve over the weekend and ran 10 times for 55 yards. His practice reps will be limited this week as he and the Chargers prepare to take on the Bengals. Edwards will flirt with an RB3 ranking versus a soft Cincinnati run defense.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Gus Edwards had 10 rushes for 55 yards in the Chargers’ Week 10 win against the Titans.
Edwards returned to the LA lineup after a six-week absence following a serious ankle injury. His 10 carries were short of J.K. Dobbins’ 15 rushing attempts, and he was vultured at the goal line by Hasaan Haskins. Edwards had a long rush of 11 yards against Tennessee. Kimani Vidal was a healthy scratch against the Titans with Edwards back in the fold, meaning Edwards would likely be the team’s RB1 should Dobbins miss any time over the next month and a half.
  • LAC Running Back #27
J.K. Dobbins had 15 rushes for 50 yards in the Chargers’ Week 10 win against the Titans, adding three catches for five yards.
It was an unwelcome development for Dobbins drafters as Gus Edwards returned from injury and saw 10 rushes to Dobbins’ 15 attempts. Importantly, Dobbins lost out on much of the short yardage work, including a goal line carry in the second half. Dobbins’ fantasy upside is clearly lopped off with Edwards back in the fold, even though Dobbins should remain the Chargers’ primary pass-catching back. Dobbins will be a decent RB2 option in Week 11 against a poor Bengals defense.
  • LAC Running Back #30
Chargers declared RB Kimani Vidal, QB Easton Stick, CB Kristian Fulton, OL Jordan McFadden, T Trey Pipkins III, TE Stone Smartt, and DL Justin Eboigbe inactive for Week 10 against the Titans.
The rookie will be a healthy scratch with Gus Edwards back in action for LA. Vidal had seen 11 rushing attempts and some pass game work over the past couple weeks. Those opportunities will likely go to Edwards, as JK Dobbins continues to lead the Chargers backfield.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Gus Edwards (ankle) is questionable to play in Week 10 against the Titans.
Edwards practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday before being upgraded to a full participant on Friday. He should be good to go this week, though the Chargers could always play things conservatively and wait for him to be fully available for multiple practices. He cannot be started against the Titans.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Gus Edwards (ankle) was limited in Thursday’s practice.
The Chargers opened Edwards’ practice window on Wednesday, meaning he can be activated from injured reserve at any time. The veteran running back has been limited in back-to-back practices to start the week but isn’t expected to carry much fantasy upside whenever he returns to the field. Edwards has been a touchdown-dependent back for the last two seasons, making him a risky bet for fantasy managers to rely on whenever he returns.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Gus Edwards (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Edwards is unlikely to hold standalone fantasy value but his return could complicate things. J.K. Dobbins has established himself as the team’s bellcow while Kimani Vidal mixes in for minimal touches and the occasional pass-protection snap. Ideally, Edwards would remain in the No. 3 role while allowing Vidal to gradually earn more opportunities. It remains to be seen if things will shake out that way though.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Chargers designated Gus Edwards (ankle) to return from injured reserve.
Edwards’ practice window is open meaning the team has three weeks to officially remove him from injured reserve. The former Raven has been out since Week 4 because of the ankle injury. He had already started to fall out of the backfield rotation before going down, so it’s unclear how much run he will see once activated. For now, fantasy managers can continue to treat J.K. Dobbins as a volume-based RB2 and Kimani Vidal as his backup.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Chargers placed RB Gus Edwards (ankle) on injured reserve.
Edwards had taken a back seat to J.K. Dobbins through four weeks, seeing 38 carries and one target to the 56 carries and 11 targets of Dobbins. Sixth-round rookie running back Kimani Vidal should step into the vacated snaps and opportunities left behind by Edwards for at least the next four weeks. The Chargers currently average 28.8 rush attempts per game, 11th in the league.
  • LAC Running Back #4
Chargers ruled out Gus Edwards (ankle) for Week 6 against the Broncos.
Edwards’ absence ignites a battle between enticing rookie Kimani Vidal and the hulking Hassan Haskins for the No. 2 role. Fantasy managers should consider stashing either player, though Vidal’s three-down profile offers more upside.
