Jets rookie WR Jerricho Cotchery is challenging Wayne Chrebet for the No. 3 WR role in New York.
Cotchery is a strong receiver whose draft stock fell because of a slow forty time. He’s been the story of Jets camp, catching a TD pass almost on a daily basis. We can’t remember coach Herman Edwards ever being so effusive in his praise for a rookie.
  • Wide Receiver
Jerricho Cotchery is expected to be the Jets’ third receiver in 2006.
Tim Dwight could compete but will likely work more on special teams. Rookie Brad Smith is a long shot to overtake Cotchery during camp.
  • Wide Receiver
Jerricho Cothery could compete with Justin McCareins for New York’s starting wideout job.
Two Jerricho updates in 24 hours! Cotchery was voted the most outstanding Jet in the team’s off-season program and has received rare praise from taskmaster Eric Mangini. McCareins doesn’t appear to be a favorite of the new staff.
  • Wide Receiver
Jerricho Cotchery is ahead of Justin McCareins on New York’s depth chart at receiver.
McCareins is rumored to be on the trade block. We wouldn’t draft Cotchery just yet, but he’s worth monitoring and could be worth a roster spot in deeper keeper leagues.
  • Wide Receiver
Jerricho Cotchery caught six passes for 65 yards in Sunday’s game.
He is the Jets’ No. 2 receiver but was the team’s No. 1 red-zone option in Week 1, being targeted in the end zone early and often. He would’ve had two scores but one was called back. Cotchery is worth owning in most leagues.

Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) was held out of Steelers practice Thursday.
Cotchery is doubtful to suit up against the Ravens. The veteran is just fifth on the depth chart, behind both Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. This is hardly a big loss for the Steelers.
  • Wide Receiver
Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) is not on the Steelers’ Week 3 injury report.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cotchery “could” dress as the Steelers’ fifth receiver against the Colts on Sunday. Firmly behind Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown on the depth chart, Cotchery seems closer to his release than he does to fantasy relevance.
  • Wide Receiver
Steelers declared WR Jerricho Cotchery, RE Brett Keisel, CB Bryant McFadden, RB Jonathan Dwyer, QB Dennis Dixon, LT Jonathan Scott and OT Jamon Meredith inactive for Week 3 against the Colts.
Ziggy Hood will start in place of Keisel, while Williams Gay will fill in for McFadden at left cornerback. Cotchery is inactive despite not appearing on the Steelers’ Week 3 injury report. He might not last the season in Pittsburgh.

Ben Roethlisberger is pushing for the Steelers to re-sign free agent Jerricho Cotchery now that Hines Ward has been released.
“Without Hines, I think you have to do everything you can to sign Jerricho back,” said Roethlisberger. Cotchery played well in limited action as the fourth and fifth receiver last season. If the Steelers don’t offer a multi-year contract, he’s likely headed for greener pastures as a No. 3 receiver.

The player rep for free agent Jerricho Cotchery had “productive talks” with the Steelers at the Combine last weekend.
“Jerricho would very much like to be back,” said the agent. The Steelers can offer Cotchery an increased role with Hines Ward out of the picture, but the veteran free agent has made it clear that a multi-year contract is a top priority.
