Buccaneers CB Jamel Dean (knee) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot) and backup DB Josh Hayes (ankle) are also hurt at the moment. Dean’s injury comes at an inopportune time though his Wednesday LP is potentially a positive for Week 3.
  • Bucs DT Calijah Kancey (calf) will not play in Week 2 against the Lions.
Head coach Todd Bowles also ruled out S Antoine Winfield Jr., RT Luke Goedeke, and CB Josh Hayes. The Bucs will be down multiple starters on defense as they head into a matchup with the Lions. All signs point to this game being a shootout, with Vegas putting to total at 51.5. That is the highest total of the week by three points. Fantasy managers can fire up Detroit skill position players with confidence.
  • Buccaneers DT Calijah Kancey (calf) did not practice on Wednesday.
Kancey was inactive for Week 1, sidelined by his third recorded calf injury since 2023. S Antoine Winfield Jr. (undisclosed) and DB Josh Hayes (ankle) were also sidelined on Wednesday after CB Bryce Hall was sent to injured reserve on Tuesday. EDGE Logan Hall (foot) and CB Zyon McCollum (concussion) both practiced in a limited capacity, however.

Bucs CB Jamel Dean (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.
Starting corner Carlton Davis sat out of practice because of a toe injury and backup corner Josh Hayes was out with a concussion. The Bucs got torched by C.J. Stroud in Week 9 and would be in a bad spot for their Week 10 matchup with Tennessee if they end up being down multiple corners. This is a situation to monitor as the week unfolds.
  • TB Defensive Back #32
Bucs selected Kansas State CB Josh Hayes with the No. 181 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Way off the pre-draft map — he was not invited to the Combine — Hayes (5'11/197) enters the league as a 24-year-old who only arrived at K State after a lengthy stay at FCS North Dakota State and a sojourn at Virginia. A 13-game starter his lone year in the Big 12, Hayes was timed at 4.47 on his Pro Day. Apparently lauded for his physicality — we are going to be honest, we don’t know much about him — Hayes has experience for days but a lack of projectable traits because of his age, size and speed. He will be hoping to carve out a role on special teams in Tampa.
