Kennoy Kennedy, currently in Detroit, will visit Miami, then Atlanta this week.
That’s assuming the best free agent safety out there doesn’t sign before leaving Detroit. Denver’s defense is taking some serious hits.
  • DET Defensive Back
ESPN’s John Clayton reports the Lions have reached an agreement with Denver safety Kennoy Kennedy.
He was the top young safety on the market, and the Broncos desperately wanted to keep him. Detroit will no longer seek to trade for Jacksonville’s Donavin Darius.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions signed safety Kennoy Kennedy, formerly of the Broncos, to a five-year, $14 million contract, including a $4.4 million signing bonus.
Kennedy was probably the best young safety available on the market. If fills a huge void in the Detroit defense. Kennedy should play free safety opposite Brock Marion at strong safety.
  • DET Defensive Back
Kennoy Kennedy has not reached an agreement with the Lions, despite John Clayton’s report yesterday.
He is expected to visit with the team this weekend. Denver may bid up to keep him.
  • DET Defensive Back
Kenoy Kennedy may lose playing time to rookie Gerald Alexander and Daniel Bullocks if the Lions fall out of the playoff race late in the season.
Kennedy isn’t a particularly good fit for the Cover 2 scheme and isn’t the hitter he once was. Daniel Bullocks is naturally a strong safety, so getting him time there would likely be the best for Detroit if it’s clearly out of the playoff hunt.
  • PIT Coaching Staff #42
Lions second-round pick Gerald Alexander will play safety as a rookie.
We suspected the Boise State product might get a look as a Tampa 2 CB but the Lions won’t move Alexander from his natural free safety position. It’s quite possible he’ll be starting in 2008 alongside natural SS Daniel Bullocks.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions SS Kenoy Kennedy (hamstring) underwent tests on Monday and his status for Week 15 is uncertain.
The Lions have a suspect secondary to start with, but would have an even tougher time stopping Antonio Gates without Kennedy.

Lions SS Kenoy Kennedy isn’t expected to return as a starter in 2008.
He’s due $2.7 million, too much for a third safety. Ideally, a healthy Daniel Bullucks will start at SS with Gerald Alexander at the free. Kennedy, 30, had 88 tackles in 2007, but is no longer a shut-down force against tight ends.

    Lions released S Kenoy Kennedy.
The writing was on the wall when they signed Kalvin Pearson and Dwight Smith. Kennedy, who made 88 stops and forced two fumbles in 2007, can still hit but isn’t the cover man he once was. He will generate some interest.
