49ers elevated RB Tevin Coleman from the practice squad.
Coleman has familiarity with Kyle Shanahan’s system, but it’s unlikely he offers much fantasy upside. Jeff Wilson should still serve as the team’s lead back on Monday night, with rookie Jordan Mason and Marlon Mack both operating in backup roles. It will be interesting to see if Coleman sees any run in his return to the Bay Area. The 49ers also elevated wide receiver Malik Turner and signed Willie Snead to the active roster.

    49ers released WR Malik Turner.
Turner caught three touchdowns for the Cowboys last season and is a special teams contributor, so it would not be surprising to see him crack a different roster. The 49ers appear to have opted to take Ray-Ray McCloud over Turner.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
49ers signed WR Malik Turner, formerly of the Cowboys, to a one-year contract.
Defensive lineman Maurice Hurst was cut and is expected to be re-signed in a procedural maneuver. Turner spent the past two seasons in Dallas. Unlike in 2020, when he was made inactive for most of the year, Turner saw an unusual amount of playing time last year. Injuries to a few Cowboys wideouts put him on the field infrequently and he made the most of his limited reps by posting a 12/149/3 receiving line. Turner made a few splashy plays and could get some run as the 49ers’ WR4 during the 2022 season.

Free agent WRs Marcus Johnson and Malik Turner visited with the 49ers on Tuesday.
Johnson has special teams value and likely would’ve played a big role for the Titans last year had his hamstring held up. 100 of his 160 receiving yards last year came in one game. Turner managed three touchdowns with the Cowboys last season and has youth on his side at 26. Neither of these players will be threats to the established 49ers pecking order, but both could be good depth pieces.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
Free agent WR Malik Turner visited the Cardinals Wednesday.
Turner, 26, spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys after opening his career with two in Seattle. A deep reserve for Dallas, Turner had a couple big games in blowouts last season, going 5-33-2 against the Broncos in Week 9 and 3-82-1 versus Washington in Week 15. He’s averaged 14.3 yards per catch in his career.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
Cowboys activated WR Malik Turner (foot) from injured reserve.
It’s possible he’ll be active for special teams depth as early as Week 4 against the Panthers. A 2018 UDFA sweeped off waivers from Seattle last year, Turner has yet to register a single catch with Dallas.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
Cowboys designated WR Malik Turner (foot) to return from injured reserve.
A 2018 UDFA, Turner has not caught a pass for the Cowboys yet after being claimed off waivers from the Seahawks near the beginning of the 2020 season. He is good special teams depth for a team that could desperately use some better special teams play, but he is no threat to real Cowboys targets barring a massive run of injuries.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
Cowboys declared S Reggie Robinson, WR Malik Turner, S Saivion Smith, LB Rashad Smith, and QB Ben DiNucci inactive for Week 5 against the Giants.
The Cowboys didn’t have any notable question marks.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
Cowboys claimed WR Malik Turner off waivers from the Packers.
This will be Turner’s third team in a calendar year after getting his ERFA tender withdrawn by the Seahawks and then spending the summer with the Packers. Turner posted a 15-245-1 line on 22 targets for Seattle last season but committed a costly drop in the eventual playoff loss. He’s veteran depth for Dallas.

  • SF Wide Receiver #81
    Packers waived WR Malik Turner.
If Turner can’t make this receiver corps, he is probably not going to make any at this stage of his career. The ex-Seahawk is headed into his age-24 campaign.
