Broncos declared DL John Franklin-Myers, LB Dre Greenlaw, CB Reese Taylor, OLB Que Robinson, OT Geron Christian and TE Marcedes Lewis inactive for Week 18 against the Chargers.
Franklin-Myers accounted for 39 quarterback pressures and eight sacks this season, though the Broncos should be okay without him. The Chargers are resting many of their impactful starters in an attempt to preserve good health for the postseason. The Broncos currently hold the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed and can retain it with a win.
  • DEN Tight End #89
Broncos signed TE Marcedes Lewis from the practice squad.
Lewis is 41 years old, and probably will play forever. It will no longer come with any fantasy relevance, but it will be infinite.
  • FA Tight End #89
    Broncos waived TE Marcedes Lewis.
In four games with the Broncos, the 41-year-old tight end chipped in as a blocker, but earned zero targets this season. He could find a spot on a practice squad after this.
  • DEN Tight End #89
Broncos signed TE Marcedes Lewis from the practice squad.
Lewis gets the active roster spot after previously being elevated from the practice squad in his previous action in 2025. He remains off the fantasy radar, but most 41-year-old’s are.
  • DEN Tight End #89
Broncos elevated TE Marcedes Lewis from the practice squad.
Lewis needs four appearances to get credit for his 20th season in the NFL, meaning he would need to be signed to the active roster at some point considering teams are allowed to elevate a player only three times from the practice squad. He starts that journey in Week 9 after his first of three standard elevations.
  • DEN Tight End
Broncos signed TE Marcedes Lewis, formerly of the Bears.
The Broncos are looking for some tight end depth with Nate Adkins potentially missing time with injury. Lewis, 41, has played 19 NFL seasons. He has six receptions over his past three years in the league. It’s safe to say he won’t have any fantasy usefulness in Denver’s offense.
  • FA Tight End
Free agent TE Marcedes Lewis visited with the Broncos on Tuesday.
Denver is reportedly bracing to be without No. 2 tight end Nate Adkins for a bit, though nothing has officially been said on his status. They attempted to claim a pair of tight ends on waivers Monday and lost out on them due to priority. Lewis has been looking for One Last Job since the offseason started and could be an interesting fit in Denver as a blocker.
  • FA Tight End #84
Free agent TE Marcedes Lewis expects 2025 to be his 20th and final NFL season.
“Mentally, I’m going into it saying this is my last year,” Lewis told Kay Adams during an appearance on Up & Adams on Thursday. “Obviously, blessed to have 19 amazing years and the journey’s been great.” The 41-year-old tight end spent the last two seasons with the Bears, appearing in all 34 regular season games. Lewis ranks third among active players in career starts (229), behind only Calais Campbell and Aaron Rodgers. Lewis, who was a first-round pick in 2006, spent his first 12 seasons with the Jaguars before stints with the Packers and Bears.
  • CHI Tight End #84
The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs writes that Marcedes Lewis wants to return for a 20th season.
Lewis, slated to be a 41-year-old free agent, told reporters before Chicago’s win against the Packers that he wants to keep playing. “My body feels good. I am still dominant at the point of contact. I don’t miss games. It’s not like I’m an old guy trying to milk it. I am not that guy. I am not out here wearing a jersey on the sideline being a leader. I want to lead from the front, and when I’m asked to do a job and counted on to do a job, I dominate and do that job,” Lewis said. He’d make a fine second or third tight end on a contender as a blocker.
  • CHI Tight End #84
FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reports free agent TE Marcedes Lewis “is going to Chicago to meet with [the Bears] tomorrow with the intention of re-signing.”
Lewis will join a crowded tight end room that also includes Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett. A first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2006, Lewis is about as much of a veteran presence as a team can get. He’s caught just 10 passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns over the last two seasons and won’t be asked to do much outside of serving as added depth on a roster. From a mentorship standpoint, Lewis will have plenty to offer the young Bears, who are ushering in a new era under No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
