Steelers elevated WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling from the practice squad.
Valdes-Scantling is on his third organization, and will have a chance to make his Steelers’ debut after signing with the team early in November. The 31-year-old wideout has familiarity with Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh wideout corps aren’t exactly spectacular, but it’s hard to invision much fantasy upside for the remainder of 2025.
  • Steelers signed WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad.
This is team three for MVS this year after spending time in Seattle and San Francisco. He doesn’t appear to be a threat to playing time right away — it is a practice squad contract — but it’s not like the Steelers have much beyond DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin in the receiver room that has proven to be better than MVS. We wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually became a low-volume part of the offense. You don’t need to spend FAAB on him unless you’re in a 20-team league.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Steelers are hosting Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a visit.
Should MVS sign with the Steelers, it would reunite him with Aaron Rodgers, with whom he spent four seasons in Green Bay. MVS started this season with the 49ers but was released earlier this month after being placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. The veteran receiver has caught four passes for 40 yards this season and went for 17-385-4 last season with the Saints. He’s unlikely to turn into a viable fantasy asset, whether he lands with the Steelers or another team this season.
  • SF Wide Receiver #83
49ers placed WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (calf) on injured reserve.
He’ll miss at least the next four weeks. Demarcus Robinson is likely to take over as the third receiver in the short-term as long as Ricky Pearsall remains sidelined. He won’t be in serious FLEX play consideration against the Falcons this weekend.
  • SF Wide Receiver #15
49ers WR Jauan Jennings (ankle/ribs/shoulder) was limited on Thursday.
Jennings continues to be on track to play in Week 7 against the Falcons, but he is clearly limited by the myriad injuries he’s picked up this season. Fellow 49ers WRs Jordan Matthews and Marquez Valdes-Scantling were both limited by calf injuries today, though MVS’ is a new one. If active, Jennings can only be treated as a boom-bust FLEX option at this time.
  • SF Wide Receiver #83
Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 2-of-3 targets for 22 yards in San Francisco’s Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers.
Valdes-Scantling played 41 of 68 snaps, distancing himself from Demarcus Robinson (13), but the two finished with roughly identical target lines. It feels like the 49ers want him on the field, but MVS probably won’t have a real shot at fantasy value in Week 7 without Jauan Jennings sitting and the rest of San Francisco’s passing game weapons (Pearsall, Kittle) remaining sidelined.
  • SF Wide Receiver #15
49ers WR Jauan Jennings (left shoulder) will undergo an MRI and “additional testing” to determine the severity of his injury in the next 24 hours.
Jennings injured his left shoulder in the 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Seahawks. Although he was initially deemed questionable to return, he spent the rest of the game on the sideline. The 49ers’ receiving corps is extremely thin, with Brandon Aiyuk (knee) still rehabbing and George Kittle (hamstring) also set to under an MRI and additional testing. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the next man up. The error-prone speedster could catch one or two deep passes against his former team, the Saints, in Week 2.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #15
Seahawks WR Tory Horton (ankle) was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 1 against the 49ers.
Horton’s training camp performance impressed Seahawks coaches to the point that they released veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling. While MVS’ drops are legendary, he also boasts 60 combined regular season starts, playing for the Packers and Chiefs. Horton’s downfield role and position on the depth chart lend themselves to volatile results, if he is even able to make good on the promise he showed this summer. He does not need to be rostered in 12-team leagues currently, but for those wishing to stash a dart throw wide receiver, Horton fits the bill. Horton should have unencumbered access to the No. 3 wide receiver role this week, with Jake Bobo (concussion) and Dareke Young (hamstring) sidelined.
  • SF Wide Receiver #1
    49ers signed WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Valdes-Scantling was cut earlier this week after losing out on the WR3 job with the Seahawks as he was outplayed by Tory Horton. The 49ers are at the point with all the injuries and contract disputes in their wide receiver room that the 30-year-old looks pretty good as a depth option. Valdes-Scantling likely doesn’t have much fantasy value with the 49ers, but with Jauan Jennings among others potentially unavailable early in the season he might get a decent amount of snaps.
  • FA Wide Receiver #1
    Seahawks released WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Not a big surprise, as Valdes-Scantling didn’t impress in camp after signing his one-year deal, and rookie WR Tory Horton had usurped the wideout to be the third wide receiver to begin the 2025 campaign. The 30-year-old will likely find a new club in the coming days, but at a salary nowhere close to the $4 million he signed for with Seattle.
