Broncos beat writer Mike Klis reports the Broncos fear DE Matt Henningsen may miss the entire season due to an Achilles injury.
The injury came in Thursday’s joint practice against the 49ers and will require further MRI exams to confirm its severity. Henningsen, who spent all of 2024 on the Broncos’ practice squad, has appeared in 34 games during his NFL career and has 40 career tackles to his name to go with one sack and two TFLs. He was battling for a spot on the 53-man roster and would have likely been used primarily as added depth along the defensive line or on special teams.

Broncos declared RB Jaleel McLaughlin, QB Zack Wilson, CB Riley Moss, CB Levi Wallace, LB Levelle Bailey, T Frank Hennigan and DL Matt Henningsen inactive for Week 16 against the Chargers.
McLaughlin was ruled out Wednesday for Week 16 by the Broncos on Wednesday, but it’s just a friendly reminder. Wilson will be the emergency third quarterback for the Thursday Night Football contest.

Broncos selected Wisconsin DL Matt Henningsen with the No. 206 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Henningsen (6’3/295) defied the odds early in his career when he became the first walk-on since 1990 to start a season opener as a freshman for Wisconsin in 2018. Henningsen’s aggressive nature to outwork blockers shows up time and time again on tape. He keeps his legs moving and uses them to generate push up front and knows how to get around or through defenders. He tested very well in explosiveness and agility drills at Wisconsin’s Pro Day as well. Henningsen has experience at both tackle and end but lacks size for an interior defender. He may be better suited as an end in the long run.

Former Wisconsin DL Matt Henningsen posted impressive numbers on pro day.
Henningsen (6'3/289) hasn’t received a ton of buzz ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft, but should be getting at least a few more eyeballs after he recorded notable numbers at Wisconsin’s pro day. Here’s a look at those, from Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network: Broad: 9’11” Vert: 37.5”, 3-cone: 7.16, SS: 4.22.

Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst said that he has been impressed by the summer progression of redshirt sophomore DE Matt Henningsen.
Henningsen (6'3/286) appeared in all 13 of Wisconsin’s games last season, making 10 starts for the campaign. He finished up the year with 32 tackles (2.5 for loss), a sack and a pass defensed. The redshirt sophomore will look to carry over his offseason gains into August camp and the season beyond.
