Joey Harrington is healthy, but the Lions don’t want to risk injury.

He’s pissed because his status as an upcoming free agent affected coach Mariucci’s decision. If Harrington struggles badly again Sunday, McMahon should finally get the call.

We believe it would take a monumentally bad performance for Harrington to get the hook. Like last week’s game.

McMahon was a restricted free agent and will continue to backup Joey Harrington. The Lions are talking long-term extension, but McMahon may wait and see if something better comes along as an unrestricted free agent next season. He is no threat to Harrington’s job.

McMahon isn’t going to pass Joey Harrington unless calamity hits. McMahon may want to sign only a one-year contract so he can test the free agent market next season.

McMahon could be in danger of being cut if he doesn’t pick up his play.

McMahon was running with the threes in practice all week. Jackson’s play has been superior to the veteran’s in the preseason.

Rookie Tarvaris Jackson, who has sparkled, could take McMahon’s backup job. Minnesota is living very dangerously if they are counting on Brad Johnson to stay healthy for 16 games.

McMahon has the talent to eventually move up to the No. 2 quarterback in Philly. Koy Detmer has that role now.
