Steelers signed S Myron Rolle to a reserve/future contract.
Rolle spent last year out of football after being waived at the Titans’ final cuts. While Rolle certainly has the smarts to play in the NFL, he lacks the athleticism and straight-line speed. He’ll struggle to make the 2012 roster.

Steelers waived or released S Myron Rolle, LB Ryan Baker, DT Mike Blanc, WR Paul Cox, CB Andre Freeman, K Daniel Hrapmann, OL Kyle Jolly, LS Matt Katula, TE Jamie McCoy, CB Walter McFadden, TE Justin Peelle, WR Juamorris Stewart, DT Kade Weston and WR Jimmy Young.
Rolle, a former Rhodes Scholar and sixth-round pick of the Titans in 2010, planned on becoming a neurosurgeon once his football career was over. That time could be now. He’s too slow and not athletic enough to play in the NFL.

Titans rookie Myron Rolle has to return to Oxford University on June 7-10 to take finals.
This hurts -- the Titans have a minicamp the same weekend. As a late sixth-round pick coming off a draft season that exposed him as lacking NFL-caliber tools, Rolle needs every opportunity he can get to impress the coaching staff.

Projected 2010 first-day pick Myron Rolle is currently training in Florida as he awaits attending Oxford University to study to be a neurosurgeon this fall.
Rolle trains in the morning, then shadows orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brad Homan in afternoons. A Rhodes Scholar at Florida State, Rolle’s commitment to football will be an issue during the pre-draft process next spring. He is an extremely gifted individual, but is sitting out this year to study.

The master list of forty times distributed to all 32 teams from the Combine reportedly has Myron Rolle’s forty time at 4.76.
Rolle was reportedly running sub-4.5s at Tom Shaw’s performance institute prior to Indianapolis, so the slow time was surprising. It will likely also prevent Rolle from being drafted before round four. Teams will view him only as a backup and special teamer, rather than a future starter.

Jaguars GM Gene Smith was among those impressed by Florida State S Myron Rolle during the Senior Bowl practice week.
Rolle spent 2009 studying to be a neurosurgeon at Oxford, but clearly stayed in shape. “He didn’t look like a player that is one year removed from football,” Smith sad. “He helped himself. It’s obvious he had been training.” The Jags need help at both safety positions. Rolle is a projected top-90 pick.

Florida State S Myron Rolle ran an unofficial forty time of 4.69 Tuesday at the NFL Combine.
This will hurt Rolle’s chances of being drafted on day two (rounds two and three), though we suspect some team is still going to fall in love with his smarts and attitude. Rolle, though, had just one INT in his college career.

During Combine interviews this week, a Bucs employee asked Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle “what it felt like to desert his team this season.”
“I hadn’t heard that one before,” Rolle said. “My initial reaction was a bit of confusion. I was more bothered by the question because if anyone knew my involvement with my teammates, how much they care about me and how much I care about them.” So the Bucs official tried to paint a Rhodes Scholarship in a negative light? This is what happens when the player is smarter and more mature than the football exec.

Texas S Earl Thomas posted 21 reps of 225 pounds on the Combine bench press Monday.
Other totals of note: Boise State CB Kyle Wilson (25), Michigan CB Donovan Warren (12), USC S Taylor Mays (24) and Florida State S Myron Rolle (21). Amid question marks about his strength and size, Thomas showed up to Indianapolis much bigger than expected and outdid both Eric Berry and Joe Haden on the bench. Thomas is also likely to tear up the forty on Tuesday.

Titans selected Florida State S Myron Rolle with the No. 207 overall pick in the NFL draft.
The Rhodes Scholar falls to the final pick in the sixth round after spending the 2009 season studying to be a neurosurgeon at Oxford University. While we’re sure that Jeff Fisher will love his intelligence and attitude, Rolle’s lack of speed limits him to a backup/special teams role in the NFL. He had just one pick in his Seminoles career.
