Patriots defensive backs Asante Samuel (shoulder), Randall Gay (arm), Dexter Reid (shoulder), and Eugene Wilson (thigh) have all been cleared to play Sunday.
New England is missing their two starting corners, but they have the rest of the secondary healthy for the first time in a while. Wilson is the key: he’s turned into a physical Pro Bowl alternate at safety and will likely play corner on Sunday as well.
  • NO Defensive Back
Patriots cornerback Randall Gay practiced fully Thursday, but wore a red non-contack jersey.
Gay is listed as questionable with an elbow injury. If he’s ready, the undrafted rookie will start versus the Jets on Sunday.
  • NO Defensive Back
Former Patriots and Saints CB Randall Gay says concussions ended his career.
“I can’t play anymore,” Gay said. “I wish I could, but I’m still having symptoms from concussions. I wanted to try again, but I can’t really do anything.” Only 30, Gay’s 2010 season was cut short by recurring concussion symptoms. The Saints cut him after the lockout, and he decided to retire. A former undrafted gem, Gay was a key part of Super Bowl winners with the Patriots and Saints.
  • NO Defensive Back
Randall Gay made his first NFL start at safety for the Patriots.
The undrafted cornerback played a series in place of Eugene Wilson, who apparently was benched for discipline reasons. Wilson played the rest of the game.
  • NO Defensive Back
Patriots cornerbacks Randall Gay (elbow) and Asante Samuel (shoulder) are both listed as questionable this week, but are expected to play.
If not the New England secondary would be in big trouble. Tyrone Poole is also listed as questionable.
  • NO Defensive Back
Cornerback Randall Gay and safety Dexter Reid will miss Sunday’s game for New England.
The Patriots need Ty Law to pull a miracle on Sunday. Cornerback Asante Samuel is also questionable. Look for the Jets to attack New England’s secondary early and often.
  • NO Defensive Back
Randall Gay left today’s game with an apparent ankle injury.
It’s 2004 all over again for the Patriots secondary. The team is also missing Tyrone Poole and Chad Scott is banged-up. Warm up Troy Brown!
  • NO Defensive Back
Patriots were missing three cornerbacks at Wednesday’s practice - Randall Gay, Tyrone Poole, and Chad Scott.
The team may sign an extra cornerback this week if they are missing all three against the Steelers.
  • NO Defensive Back
Randall Gay may have already taken over New England’s starting cornerback job - again.
With Tyrone Poole banged-up, the Patriots will go with Randall Gay and Asante Samuel again as starters. Duane Starks, Poole, and Chad Scott make up an experience, but injured, bench.
  • NO Defensive Back
CB Randall Gay (ankle) was on crutches yesterday.
Coach Bill Belichick, in typical fashion, said Gay’s injury was nothing more than ''normal bumps and bruises.’'
