George was waived by the Dolphins on Monday. He was on the Cowboys’ practice squad for most of 2008 before signing with the Saints late in the year. The Cowboys needed a linebacker with Brandon Williams (knee) out for the year and Stephen Hodge (knee) sidelined.

Dolphins signed FB Lex Hilliard, OLB Tearrius George, DL Joe Cohen, WR Todd Lowber, WR Anthony Armstrong, DB Scorpio Babers, CB Will Billingsley, and FB Chris Brown to reserve/future contracts.

Most of these players spent 2008 on the practice squad. Hilliard, last year’s sixth-round pick, offers little speed and probably doesn’t have a future in the NFL. Lowber isn’t the answer for Miami’s problems at wideout.

The Saints received roster exemptions this weekend for recently signed Rob Ninkovich and LB Tearrius George, signed earlier this week.

Both players were signed off other practice squads and won’t be available this week following Deuce McAllister and Will Smith’s suspensive reprieve. The league’s practice squad rules require each player to remain with the Saints for three weeks.
