Bears G Terrence Metcalf underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Friday.
Friday was an injury-laden day for Chicago. Metcalf, now the Bears’ top reserve lineman, is expected to miss two-to-three weeks of practice.
  • Terrence Metcalf has been named the Bears’ starting right guard.
Roberto Garza moves to the bench, where he will serve as the team’s top backup at both guard spots and center.
  • Bears placed G Ruben Brown on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, ending his season.
This may be the end of the line for Brown, who will be 36 by the time free agency rolls around next March. A 13-year veteran, Brown has made the Pro Bowl nine times, once for Chicago and eight times for Buffalo. Terrence Metcalf is likely to replace Brown at left guard moving forward. It’s not a major loss because Brown wasn’t playing well and Metcalf has starting experience.
  • Lions signed OG Terrence Metcalf, formerly of the Bears.
Metcalf, 31, has 25 games of starting experience, but appears to be a long shot even to make the Lions. He’s coming on too late to pick things up.
  • Lions released OG Terrence Metcalf.
Someone had to be cut so the Lions could sign QB Brooks Bollinger. Metcalf will probably struggle to find a job at this point in the summer.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #93
Bears DE Mark Anderson (thumb) and G Terrence Metcalf (knee) returned to practice Monday.
Anderson will be a nickel rusher this year. He won’t get many tackles, but has 10-sack potential. Metcalf has likely lost his starting job to Josh Beekman.
  • Bears LG Terrence Metcalf will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery shortly and miss at least the next few weeks.
We’d say this was a blow with left tackle Chris Williams (back) also out, but Metcalf isn’t very good and top backup Josh Beekman could end up being a better option anyways. The Bears shouldn’t rush Metcalf back.
  • Bears coach Lovie Smith says the competition for the departed Ruben Brown’s left guard position is between Terrence Metcalf and Josh Beekman.
The team has no plans to re-sign Brown, and John St. Clair will remain at tackle. Metcalf has the experience and versatility edge, but Beekman may have a bit more potential.
