When the Nashville Predators hold their first training camp practice on Saturday they will have to do so without their biggest offseason acquisition.
The team announced on Friday evening that defenseman P.K. Subban is currently listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury and will be reevaluated after September 27.
That means he will also miss the Predators’ first exhibition game on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers.
“I’ve just been a little bit sore lately, so we’re just going to take our time and make sure,” Subban said on Friday, via Adam Vignan of the Tennessean. “I came in a couple days to skate early. Just a little bit sore, so we’re going to see how I feel.”
The Predators acquired Subban over the summer from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Shea Weber in one of the biggest and most shocking one-for-one blockbuster trades in recent NHL memory. Subban is probably biggest superstar to ever play for the team and has helped raise expectations around the team to an all-time high.
His addition to the roster also gives the Predators a defense that might be the NHL’s best, while just about every member of it is young and under contract long-term on cap friendly deals.
He already seems to be a perfect fit in the city, and should be a perfect fit on the ice.
Subban appeared in 68 games for the Canadiens in 2015-16, scoring six goals to go with 46 assists. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season due to a neck injury that resulted in him leaving a late-season game on a stretcher.
