Two-time Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Anna Gasser of Austria plans to make this season her last before retiring at age 35.
“I’ve been putting the decision off for a bit, but this is 100% my last season,” Gasser said, according to a translation of an Austrian Olympic Committee report.
Gasser, who won the first two Olympic women’s big gold medals in 2018 and 2022, said before the 2026 Olympics that Milan Cortina would be her final Games but didn’t give a definitive end date until this week.
She placed eighth in big air and 10th in slopestyle in Italy in February.
Gasser and Canadian Mark McMorris are the only snowboarders to compete in every Olympic slopestyle competition since the discipline debuted in 2014.
This season, Gasser plans to compete in three events, all in Austria, capped by the World Championships in March in Montafon.
“I have some unfinished business with tricks I haven’t yet shown in competition, but have been training hard for over the past few years,” she said, according to Krone Zeitung. “I won’t force it anymore. I have to stay healthy, stay fit, and feel confident. If everything comes together, and I feel good at the moment, then I’ll be there for the Austrian events. Nothing else.”
Gasser also won world titles in big air in 2017 and 2023, plus X Games Aspen big air titles in 2018 and 2025.
She took up snowboarding at age 17 after quitting gymnastics at 14.
