Charlotte Rose became the first U.S. woman to win a world sailing title in the ILCA 6 (one-person dinghy) event in 21 years.
Rose, a 26-year-old from Houston, claimed the title in Dún Laoghaire, near Dublin, Ireland, over the weekend.
“It just means that the process is working,” Rose said. “We’re still two years out from the Games. I’m not letting off the gas now. I’m going to keep going until 2028, and the gold medal is the goal.”
Rose previously was runner-up at the January 2024 World Championships, then the following month was third at the Olympic Trials for Paris won by Erika Reineke.
The last American woman to win a world title in the event was three-time Olympian Paige Railey in 2005. Since 2007, the last 19 world champions were from Europe -- 10 different nations.
The last American woman to win an Olympic sailing medal was Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias in 2008 (gold in the one-person dinghy).
