Chase Jackson broke her own American record in the shot put with the world’s second-best throw in the last 14 years.
Jackson, the 2026 World Indoor champion, threw 21.02 meters (68 feet, 11 1/2 inches) at the ISTAF Berlin meet in Germany on Sunday.
“It was amazing. I have been waiting for a throw like this for so long,” Jackson said, according to World Athletics.
She became the first woman from the Western Hemisphere to clear 21 meters. Cuban Belsy Laza had the previous best of 20.96 from 1992.
Jackson’s previous American record was 20.95 meters from June 2025. Before that, she threw 20.76 meters at the 2023 Prefontaine Classic, which broke 2016 Olympic gold medalist Michelle Carter’s American record of 20.63.
Jackson, a 32-year-old from Los Alamos, New Mexico, is the second woman in the last 14 years to clear the 21-meter barrier. Dutchwoman Jessica Schilder, the 2025 World Outdoor champion, threw 21.09 in May.
