Chase Jackson breaks U.S. record for second time this week, world’s best shot put in 15 years

Chase Jackson broke her American record in the shot put for the second time this week, launching the world’s best throw in 15 years.

Jackson, a two-time world outdoor champion, threw 21.14 meters (69 feet, 4 1/4 inches) to win the Diamond League Final, the world’s most prestigious annual track and field meet, in Brussels on Friday.

Jackson, a 32-year-old from Los Alamos, New Mexico, broke her own American record of 21.02 meters that she posted at a meet in Berlin this past Sunday.

“I still think I can throw farther,” Jackson said. “You always want more.”

She is now the first woman from the Western Hemisphere to break the 69-foot barrier.

It’s also the world’s best throw since 2011, when Valarie Adams of New Zealand recorded a 21.24-meter throw at the World Championships. Jackson’s throw is the second-best in the world in the last 26 years.

Also Friday, Americans won Diamond League titles in the men’s 110m hurdles (Ja’Kobe Tharp) and women’s 400m hurdles (Anna Cockrell).

The Diamond League Final is a two-day meet, finishing Saturday.

The track and field season then continues with the first World Athletics Ultimate Championship — the top meet of 2026 — from Sept. 11-13 in Budapest, airing on NBC Sports and Peacock.

Chase Ealey went from missing the Tokyo Olympics to win the world championships shot put. She competes in the USATF Indoor Championships on NBC, Peacock.
