Kenyan Amos Kipruto and Ethiopian Hawi Feysa won the Chicago Marathon, while Emma Grace Hurley ran the fastest debut marathon in U.S. women’s history.
Kipruto prevailed in the men’s race in an unofficial 2:01:09, matching the fifth-fastest marathon in history. It’s his second major marathon title after winning London in 2022.
Ethiopian Tadese Bikila was runner-up, 1:47 behind.
Paris Olympian Clayton Young was the top American in seventh place, running 2:05:23, the second-fastest time in American history on a record-eligible course. Training partner Conner Mantz ran the American record of 2:04:43 in Chicago last year.
Young said going into the race that he dealt with a hamstring tear.
Feysa pulled away from Kenyan Sharon Lokedi in the last mile to repeat as women’s champ in 2:13:33.
Lokedi, a past Boston and New York City Marathon champion, finished 34 seconds later.
Hurley was the top American in seventh in 2:20:47, shattering the record of fastest debut marathon for a U.S. woman set by Fiona O’Keeffe in winning the 2024 Olympic Trials in 2:22:10.
Hurley also ran the fastest marathon by a U.S. woman since the Paris Olympics, clipping Jess McClain’s time from Boston in April by two seconds.
The last major marathon of 2026 is the New York City Marathon on Nov. 1.
