Olympic 100m hurdles silver medalist Cyréna Samba-Mayela of France has been provisionally suspended for whereabouts failures.
Athletes face suspensions if they have three whereabouts failures in a 12-month span. Whereabouts failures can be not being present for a drug test or not providing complete and accurate information to be found for drug tests.
Olympic-level athletes are required to provide and be present at daily locations for drug testers to find them for no-notice testing.
Athletes who accrue three whereabouts failures in a 12-month span can be banned up to two years with the length dependent on degree of fault.
Athletes can be provisionally suspended before a hearing to determine the final decision in their case, which could come after an appeals process.
The Athletics Integrity Unit, which handles drug-testing and doping cases in track and field, has not specified details of Samba-Mayela’s case.
Samba-Mayela, 25, won France’s lone track and field medal at the Paris Games. She last competed on July 14.
