David Rudisha was nearly three second slower than the 800m world record pace he set in London last summer, but that was still plenty fast to earn yet another victory and set a season best at the Diamond League meet in Doha Friday afternoon.
Rudisha, arguably the worlds fastest man (his friend Usain Bolt has something to say about it) clocked 1:43.87 to easily beat Ethiopia’s Mohammed Aman, who ran 1:44.21 for second.
“I feel good. I was relaxing today,” Rudisha said. “It was the beginning of the season and it was first race, so there was no pressure. [Aman] defeated me in the last race of the season, and it was good to do something at least in the beginning of the season to give me more confidence.”
Rudisha plans to up his distance to 1000m later this year in order to try something new, challenge his speed and endurance, and maybe even break a rarely contested world record in the process.
