Francesca Lollobrigida, Olympic speed skating gold medalist from Italy, announces pregnancy

Italian Francesca Lollobrigida, who in February won two Olympic speed skating gold medals two years after having son Tommaso, announced she is pregnant with her second child.

Lollobrigida was one of the biggest host nation stars at the Milan Cortina Games.

She won Italy’s first gold on the first day of medal competition, taking the 3000m on her 35th birthday.

Five days later, she won the 5000m, becoming the second Italian woman in any sport to win two golds at one Winter Games. Alpine skier Federica Brignone later became the third to do so.

Lollobrigida mulled stopping skating earlier in the 2025-26 season due to a viral infection.

Earlier this month, Lollobrigida said she was undecided on whether to bid for the 2030 French Alps Winter Olympics, where speed skating will be held in the Netherlands at Thialf, the sport’s most hallowed venue.
