This year’s worlds include the first team events at a global championship since the Paris Olympics.
The U.S. women won the last seven world team titles dating to 2011. They are expected to be challenged by teams from China and Russia.
In the individual all-around, the U.S. put at least one woman on the podium at every Olympics and worlds dating to 2003, but nobody on this year’s team has ever competed in an all-around on either of those stages.
The U.S. men won bronze at the most recent worlds with a team event in 2023, plus at the 2024 Olympics, but are missing key contributors from those teams.
U.S. Gymnastics Roster for 2026 World Championships
The U.S. women’s roster for worlds includes 2024 Olympic team gold medalist Hezly Rivera, two-time world team champion Skye Blakely and three women making senior global championship debuts: Claire Pease, Charleigh Bullock and Reese Esponda.
Rivera won the last two U.S. all-around titles, but missed the chance to make the 2025 World roster due to a sprained ankle.
Blakely, the 2024 U.S. all-around runner-up to Simone Biles, is going to her fourth consecutive worlds dating to 2022. She missed a chance at a first Olympics in 2024 after rupturing an Achilles two days before Olympic Trials.
Pease, a 17-year-old who trains with Rivera outside Dallas, was the top all-arounder combining scores from the Xfinity U.S. Championships in August and a selection competition in September.
Bullock, 16, will become the youngest U.S. gymnast to compete at a senior worlds since 2018 (Kara Eaker, Grace McCallum).
Esponda, 17, beat out two-time Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey for a spot on the team. Both are strong on vault and floor exercise.
The U.S. men’s team is led by national all-around champion Frederick Richard, the 2023 World all-around bronze medalist and 2024 Olympic team bronze medalist.
None of Richard’s 2024 Olympic teammates will join him in Rotterdam.
Neither Brody Malone nor Asher Hong competed at August’s nationals, though each is expected to return in 2027.
Stephen Nedoroscik, the Pommel Horse Guy, was fifth on horse at nationals coming back from hip and shoulder injuries and didn’t make the team.
Paul Juda retired after the Paris Games.
Instead, Richard is joined by Tokyo Olympian Shane Wiskus, 2025 World Championships veterans Kameron Nelson and Patty Hoopes and Danila Leykin, who makes his senior global championship debut at age 19.
The top three women’s and men’s teams at worlds qualify 2028 Olympic spots for their nations. The rest of the 12-team Olympic fields will be determined by 2027 World Championships results.
