Hockey bodies to meet again Friday in New York

OLYMPICS: Mens Hockey-Canada vs Norway

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

This just in: The NHL, NHLPA, IOC, and IIHF will meet again Friday in New York to discuss whether or not the pro hockey stars will be allowed to play at the Sochi Games next February. Previous meetings have garnered few conclusions, and the group told ESPN that we shouldn’t expect any to be made this weekend, or even this month. Maybe in May – maybe – but they’re not offering any guarantees.

The four sides have met a number of times to discuss media rights, access, accommodations, and the league’s willingness to shut down for two to three weeks, but the new elephant in the room is regarding who will cover the insurance and hospitality costs for the NHL officials, athletes, and their families.

NHL players have competed in the last four Olympics.
