Katelyn Ohashi is returning to gymnastics at Saturday’s American Classic, her first meet in seven years and her first on the elite level in 13 years.
“After a few years of contemplating whether I wanted to continue chasing a dream I had as a little kid, I have decided to go for it,” was posted on Ohashi’s social media Tuesday. “I’m taking it one day at a time; one skill, one event, one dream. I don’t have any regrets in my career and I want to be able to continue saying that no matter what happens. So here goes nothing!”
Ohashi, 29, is one of the few women to beat Simone Biles in top-level competition, doing so at the 2013 American Cup.
That marked Ohashi’s last elite meet. She dealt with back and shoulder injuries before competing for UCLA from 2016-19.
In 2019, her perfect-10 floor exercise routine garnered more than 250 million YouTube views.
Jade Carey, an Olympic gold medalist in 2021 and 2024, is also entered in the American Classic in Minneapolis, marking her first elite meet since the Paris Games.
