Marc Gasol will miss Rio Games, reports say

Olympics Day 14 - Basketball

In a widely expected move, Marc Gasol will not compete for Spain in the Rio Games. He was unable to recover from a broken foot suffered in February while playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.

It’s a big loss for Spain, the U.S. men’s basketball team’s toughest competition. Gasol averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds at the past two Olympics, where the Spaniards took silver after losses to the Americans in the final.

Marc’s older brother, Pau, is planning on competing in Rio. The Spanish team is expected to be named in the next week.
