The rink where Megan Keller learned to play hockey is now named after her.
Suburban Ice Arena in Farmington Hills, Michigan, unveiled “Megan Keller Rink” on Megan Keller Day on Thursday.
A wall with the new name also shows Keller scoring the Olympic golden goal against Canadian goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens in Milan on Feb. 19.
“What a surprise!!” was posted on Keller’s Instagram. “Feeling very lucky to call this rink my home -- it’s where my dreams started as a kid! And hopefully, many more can start here.”
Keller, 30, has held an all-girls hockey camp at Suburban Ice in recent summers. Until high school, Keller played on boys’ teams due to a lack of girls programs in the area.
Earlier this year, Keller and the NHL Foundation made a $50,000 donation to the Suburban Hockey Foundation in Farmington Hills as part of the Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey.
The funds are earmarked to help girls’ hockey families in Michigan remain involved in the sport during times of significant financial hardship.
The next major international women’s hockey tournament is the World Championship in November in Denmark.
