Rio 2016 unveils official font

We’re still 1,380 days out from the Rio Games, so while we won’t be learning the official motto or meeting the official mascots for some time, we at OlympicTalk are proud to unveil the official Rio 2016 Olympics font. It was designed by Swiss typographers Dalton Maag and feels a bit like Lucinda meets Disney, but we actually kind of like it.

Here’s the description from the Rio site. Enjoy:

“The letters are written in single continuous strokes, with fast and fluid motions, suggesting the movements of the athletes in action. The strong contrast between thick and thin strokes was explored during the design process by putting brush to paper and writing by hand. The variety of the curves in the different letters has a unique informality, inspired by the joyfulness of the Brazilian people.”
