Tara Davis-Woodhall said she has a severe concussion after a car accident last week — a head-on collision at about 20 miles per hour.
“I’m physically OK,” Davis-Woodhall said in a group media call to promote next week’s World Athletics Ultimate Championship. “Mentally, something’s going on in there.”
She also posted about the accident on social media.
Davis-Woodhall, the 2024 Olympic and 2025 World champion in the long jump, said the collision happened after she pulled into a parking lot for practice.
“There’s not much more I can say about the accident, but it’s very scary,” she said. “I’m lucky and blessed to be alive and no life-threatening injuries. I don’t know where my head’s at right now. I’m just making it day by day.”
Davis-Woodhall said she hasn’t trained since the accident and doesn’t know if she will be ready to compete at the first Ultimate Championship, which is Sept. 11-13 in Budapest.
“I’m at the peak of my training right now,” she said. “I’m as fast as I’ve ever been. I’m as strong as I’ve ever been. So, this decision is very difficult for me. I don’t know where I am right now.”
