Yahoo Sports’ Jason Cole reports the Packers are “working hard” to re-sign free agent C Scott Wells.
However, sources with knowledge of the negotiations tell the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel the two sides remain “far apart.” Wells is reportedly seeking $7.5 million per season, while Green Bay is believed to be offering “somewhere between” $4-$5 million.” With inexperienced Evan Dietrich-Smith representing the Packers’ only current potential in-house replacement, they have plenty of incentive to re-sign a long-time starter who was one of the league’s best centers in 2011.

Free agent C Scott Wells will visit the Rams.
Wells visited the Titans on Wednesday. According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the 31-year-old long-time center for the Packers is drawing “strong interest.” He’d be a nice replacement for Jason Brown in St. Louis.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects free agent C Scott Wells to hit the open market.
Wells and the Pack are reportedly “playing a game of chicken,” waiting to see “which side breaks first.” The sides were “far apart” as recently as late February, and there’s been little indication of progress. Wells is unlikely to get the annual $7.5 million he’s seeking on the open market, but it’s possible his price won’t come down enough to return to Green Bay.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers and free agent C Scott Wells “still have not found common ground.”
The sides were “far apart” in late February, and apparently haven’t closed the gap with free agency just days away. If Wells holds fast on his (reported) demand of $7.5 million per season, he will hit the open market on Tuesday.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Packers and free agent C Scott Wells will likely part ways this offseason.
The Packers have reportedly low-balled Wells based on their perception of his market value as an undersized, 31-year-old, zone-blocking center. Green Bay’s center since 2004, Wells made his first Pro Bowl in 2011 and has 46 straight starts. GM Ted Thompson is likely playing his cards right -- as usual -- but it’s still a bit surprising that the Packers view Wells as so low a priority. The lone in-house replacement would be Evan Dietrich-Smith (three career starts).

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers discussed free agent C Chris Myers with his representatives “in one of the technically illegal but nonetheless widespread meetings” at the Combine.
The Journal-Sentinel’s venerable NFL writer, Bob McGinn, insists nearly every re-signing and free agent signing in March “germinates” from the “supposedly illegal club-agent meetings in Indy.” Pro Football Focus’ top-rated 2011 center, Myers makes sense for Green Bay as a replacement for fellow under-sized zone-blocker Scott Wells. It’s conceivable that Packers officials leaked the Myers talks to goad Wells into lowering his reported $7.5 million asking price.

Free agent C Chris Myers is “in talks” with the Titans and Texans, according to Profootballtalk.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel hears the Titans have also shown interested in free agent center Scott Wells, a sign that the team is serious about improving at the pivot. Myers’ preference is to return to Houston, so the Titans will have to come strong.

Free agent C Scott Wells visited with the Titans on Wednesday.
The Titans are making the position a priority after engaging in talks with Chris Myers, the other top center on the market, on Tuesday. Former Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson has also visited Tennessee this week.

Free agent C Scott Wells “seems determined” to leave the Packers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Wells has talked with Tennessee, although Houston’s Chris Myers may be the Titans’ first choice. Wells could also replace Myers in Houston. It wouldn’t shock us if Wells winds up returning to Green Bay if he doesn’t get a big contract elsewhere, but the local scribes think Wells is all but gone.

The signing of OG Steve Hutchinson has not decreased the Titans’ interest in free agent C Scott Wells, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Per the Journal-Sentinel’s Bob McGinn, the Titans aren’t “overly thrilled” with holdover Eugene Amano and would “easily release” him if they land Wells. Though he has three years left on his five-year, $26.25 contract, Amano has been one of the least effective centers in the NFL the past two years. Look for Wells, a Nashville native, to ultimately return home.
