Eagles signed sixth-round pick QB Kyle McCord to a four-year contract.
The four-year rookie deal is worth $4.46 million. McCord will now spend the next four months jockeying for the No. 2 position on the depth chart with the Eagles’ 2023 sixth-round pick, QB Tanner McKee, and free agent-signee, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. McCord possesses a strong arm and solid pocket awareness. Regardless of his ultimate depth chart landing spot, he should be a fun preseason performer. The Eagles also announced the signings of LB Smael Mondon Jr., OT Myles Hinton and OLB Antwaun Powell-Ryland.
  • PHI EDGE #2
Eagles selected Georgia LB Smael Mondon Jr. with the No. 161 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Mondon (6’2/224) is yet another in a long line of five-star recruits that Georgia HC Kirby Smart has molded into NFL prospects. He cut his teeth as a freshman reserve in 2021 before slotting right into a starting role the following year, leading the National Champion Bulldogs with 76 tackles to go with 8.0 TFLs. Mondon had his finest season in 2024 setting career highs with a 76th-percentile run defense grade, 74th-percentile pass rush grade and 72nd percentile overall defensive grade. Though he only did two events at the Combine, his 4.58s 40-yard dash is a 91st percentile mark while his incredible 10’10” broad jump ranked in the 99th-percentile for the position. One of the most efficient tacklers in the 2025 linebacker group, Mondon recorded a sterling 5.2-percent missed tackle rate, snuffing out ball carriers once his vice grip-hands and fastened on his prey. Tremendous burst once he triggers, but he’s small for the position and has had some missteps picking the wrong gaps to fill. He missed at least two games in each of the last three years due to injury and had foot surgery this spring. Mondon is an undersized, but productive linebacker whose athleticism should help him carve out a rotational niche.
  • PHI Linebacker #42
Georgia signed five-star 2021 LB Smael Mondon.
Mondon (6'3/240) had released a short list of five schools that included an all-SEC wish list of Tennessee, LSU, Florida and Auburn. However the blue chip linebacker ultimately opted to stay in-state and sign with Georgia. The Dallas, GA native is a huge signing for HC Kirby Smart, as he is rated as the number one OLB and ninth overall recruit according to 247Sports. A two-sport athlete, Mondon is a rare specimen who ran the 100 and 200 meters, long jump and triple jump despite tipping the scales at 240 pounds. He has legitimate first-round NFL Draft upside if he progresses as expected.

  • PHI Linebacker #42
Chad Simmons of Rivals writes that uncommitted five-star 2021 LB Smael Mondon is set to make his commitment this week.
Mondon is down to five school, all of which reside in the SEC. A Georgia native himself, Mondon has the Bulldogs on his shortlist, as well as Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU. Both Rivals and 247 Sports experts are expecting Mondon to end up staying in his home state, but Tennessee and Auburn are considered to have pretty legit cases. Mondon, a 6-foot-3 and 220-pound, shows great size and speed for a linebacker of the modern mold.

  • PHI Linebacker #42
Uncommitted four-star 2021 LB Smael Mondon said that he is “not going to rush a decision.”
“I am still waiting to see when on-campus visits open back up, when I could get back out and see what happens from there,” Mondon explained. While there was some thought that he might commit in June, we’ve seen the slow-and-steady approach from the four-star linebacker throughout the offseason. He said outright two months ago that the impact of the coronavirus on recruiting had slowed down his process. As for who might be in play for the Dallas, Georgia, native, think SEC. Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee are all contenders, here. Rivals ranks Mondon as the No. 85 overall prospect in the 2021 class.

Uncommitted four-star 2021 LB Smael Mondon said that “the virus has slowed things down” with his recruitment.
Mondon (6i'3/210) had a visit on the docket to Oklahoma which he was unable to take after face-to-face recruiting was shut down, for one thing. And he was aiming to take other spring visits, too, all of which were shuttered and boarded. As a result, the Dallas, Georgia, native is not yet to the point where he feels ready to put out a top-five or top-six list of finalists. Mondon is unsure of whether he will be able to narrow his field down this summer without actually taking visits. Beyond the Sooners, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Ohio State have all been in touch with him on the reg via virtual means. Rivals ranks Mondon as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2021 class.

Uncommitted four-star 2021 LB Smael Mondon could take visits to a number of programs this spring and summer, including Florida, FSU, LSU and Texas A&M.
Mondon (6'3/210) is additionally interested in offseason visits to Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Texas. Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee already saw unofficial visits in January. There’s a lot going on, here, and the Dallas, Georgia, native is taking his time sorting through his various options, telling Rivals that he likely will not commit to a program until December. Rivals ranks Mondon as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2021 class.
