Norway 1-2 aet England live updates: Bellingham brace sends Tuchel’s Three Lions to World Cup semifinal

England boss Thomas Tuchel is not happy with his team’s performance against Norway, branding it “lucky.”

But he sure loves the team’s heart.

“It’s not a mentality problem — this is pure mentality,” Tuchel said. “How can you ask about mentality now? This is pure mentality, you can bottle it up and sell it. It’s the quality of our games. That’s it. It has nothing to do with mentality.”

JPW is down in the mixed zone, speaking with the England and Norway players, but here’s what he’s just published on Man of the Match winner Jude Bellingham.

“For the fourth time in six games at this World Cup he was the difference for England as they edged past Norway to reach the 2026 World Cup semifinals. In the lead up to this World Cup Thomas Tuchel challenged Bellingham publicly on several occasions. Looks like it worked. He has now scored six goals.

“Bellingham feels football. Players like Bellingham are football. Football is decided by brave players willing to make the difference like Bellingham.”

They really don’t get more even than this match, but Bellingham made the most of two chances while Norway could not get enough service to Erling Haaland as both teams did a magnificent job with the opposition’s star No. 9.

England will get Argentina or Switzerland in the semifinal on Wednesday. Norway will lament how close they came to the final four.

Nyland can’t handle Spence’s shot through traffic and Saka tracks it, belting the ball off the chest of the tall-standing keeper.

Bellingham leaves the game for Dan Burn in the 111th minute.

The huge Norwegian forward is leaving the match before the second period of extra time. Reports say his left leg was subject of some attention.

Jorgen Strand Larsen is the man who will be tasked with filling Haaland’s boots.

Bellingham’s second goal of the game is the difference of a game with so many flash points.

England’s first goal came after a Norway goal kick hit the Skycam. Norway had a goal pulled off the board by VAR for a foul by Erling Haaland. England had a penalty attempt taken away by VAR, too.

It’s been so close, so tight. England were the better team for a while, then Norway. Now England again. And there are 15 minutes remaining in this!

Can Norway find Haaland, or can Odegaard make some magic?

Djed Spence goes down after a 50/50 with Oscar Bobb, and it never looked right.

VAR agrees, as Spence stretches his right leg in front Bobb to draw contact before hitting the turf.

It would’ve been a shame.

England have the lead for the first time in the game, right at the start of extra time.

After a period of pressure the ball is played to Morgan Rogers about 25 yards out. He has a pop and it’s straight down the middle.

But Nyland makes a mess of it and spills the ball straight out to Jude Bellingham, who of course was first to the loose ball and smashes home.

England lead 2-1 and Bellingham has both goals. He steps up once again for England.

Huge chants of “Judeeeeeee” here as England’s fans go wild and share their relief.

England will be the happier of the two teams to see the final whistle blow and the score is 1-1.

Norway had the better chances in the second half and will feel unlucky to not be ahead. They were really dominant.

Bukayo Saka did deliver two great crosses which England couldn’t make the most of, but that was about it as the Three Lions look sluggish.

It is so nervy and tense here inside the stadium in Miami.

30 minutes of extra time. Let’s see if England, who had just 0.09 xG in that second half, can find a spark from somewhere.

Morgan Rogers and Djed Spence have done well since they came on and have injected a bit more urgency.

Holmgren Pedersen replaces Moller Wolfe for Norway, while England make a second sub in just a few minutes.

Djed Spence had replaced Nico O’Reilly and now Morgan Rogers comes into the game for Konsa in the 89th minute.

First it’s Bukayo Saka dancing through defenders and crossing to the back post only to see Fredrik Aursnes make a terrific intervention.

Then Ezri Konsa holds up play and wins a corner kick from the right, but Norway deal with the danger.

Bukayo Saka dances his way into the box and his cross is a good one.

It looks certain to go in but somehow Norway clear.

England finally have created something in this second half.

Their fans are loving that from Saka and that was sensational from the Arsenal winger.

James had not been a like-for-like replacement for Rice, and Norway are having their way with the Three Lions albeit without finish — or at least one that counts.

That said, England have also limited the quality of shot making its way to Pickford, who stoops to collect an 85th-minute shot from distance.

A corner kick makes its way to the back post after Jordan Pickford could only manage a two-handed parry.

A bounding shot pops off the cross bar and Sander Berge takes an elbow in the back as he tries to head into the empty goal.

No foul, no VAR, and England are a bit lucky there!

Still 1-1 into the 79th minute.

Reece James replaces Anthony Gordon in the 71st minute as England look to steady a game which has drifted into Norway’s favor.

Oscar Bobb and Antonio Nusa provide fresh legs, entering for Alexander Sorloth and the goal scorer Schjelderup.

Still 1-1 into the second-half water break.

England look pretty tired and that last 16 clash in Mexico City may well have taken more out of them than we thought.

They’ve been sluggish at the start of this second half.

Chants of “Don’t take me home, please don’t take me home, I just don’t want to go to work. I want to stay here, drink all your beer, please don’t, please don’t take me home!” ring out from the England fans here in Miami.

They aren’t ready to leave the World Cup but at the moment it really is 50-50.

Norway are holding their own and digging deep and England look leggy.

Norway are well on top and a corner is whipped in and two players knock it down before Torbjorn Heggem finishes at the back post.

They go wild but VAR asks the referee to take a look at a push by Erling Haaland on his new Manchester City teammate Elliot Anderson.

The referee decides to rule out the goal for the push.

Halaand had two hands on Anderson, but the England midfielder made sure everyone saw him go down.

Feels like England may have got away with one there, but referees have been on top of any kind of pushing and shoving in the box.

Norway have recovered a little and the game has opened up.

First a counter sees the ball find Sorloth on the right but he takes a bit took long to cross and shanks it.

It almost flies in but Pickford pushes it over.

From a free kick soon after Haaland’s header is pushed wide by Pickford nervously.

Then from that corner the ball flashes across goal and flicks off John Stones for another corner.

Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka are on at half time for England with Declan Rice and Noni Madueke coming off.

Eze on for Rice is obviously a more attacking move, but Rice has been struggling with injuries and has been sick this week. Rice is back out on the bench as he walked along the side of the pitch at the start of the second half with his flip flops on with Jordan Henderson by his side.

Rice looked tired in that first half.

Saka is having his minutes managed due to injury and his arrival on the right will give England even more quality in attack.

This is a very attacking lineup from Tuchel and he will have to be careful that Norway don’t catch England out on the break.

The momentum of this game has just shifted massively.

England had most of the ball but didn’t do much with it.

Then Norway pounced with Andreas Schjelderup spanking home a beauty, which may have been a cross, to put them 1-0 up and England were rattled and Norway should have gone 2-0 up.

England responded right before half time as Jude Bellingham finishes superbly and then Harry Kane scored but he was just offside.

This game is very tight but England will be the happier team with how they’ve played and they will hope that goal before the break gives the momentum to kick on in the second half.

England think they’re ahead just before half time as Harry Kane has the ball in the back of the net.

Bellingham is found on the edge of the box and turns before slotting a perfect ball through to Kane.

He dinks Nyland in Norway’s goal and the ball is in. Replays show Kane was offside, just. The Norwegian defense just stepped up in time.

Kane had a pop from distance just before it and he and Bellingham are taking over this game.

What a goal as Jude Bellingham makes it 1-1 just before half time!

Anthony Gordon is played in behind and picks out Bellingham.

He takes a great first touch, and a couple more to work some space, and powers home the ball across goal.

Jude steps up, big time, once again.

England’s fans go bonkers here in Miami and break out into a chorus of ‘Hey Jude!’ soon after.

Boy did England need that. Norway were all over them before that goal.

Kane loses the ball and Norway are quick to act with one of their first opportunities in England’s half (yes, it’s the 36th minute).

Schjelderup is the scorer but there will be questions about his intent to shoot or cross. Either way, Odegaard found him and the star of the last round — two assists to Erling Haaland — beats Jordan Pickford.

Norway lead!

Erling Haaland went close with a header which Jordan Pickford saved, then moments later Andreas Schjelderup pinged a beauty in off the far post to put Norway 1-0 up.

It may have been a cross towards Haaland but Schjelderup hit it with such power and Pickford inexplicably took his hands away from the ball and it flew in.

Harry Kane wanted a foul in the build-up but he didn’t get it.

Then Alexander Sorloth smashed a shot just over and Martin Odegaard had a low shot which Pickford saved down low.

It is all Norway and England are hanging on before half time.

Norway’s fans pull off the first big row of the game and that was pretty decent.

But it was pretty noticeable that England’s fans got a few chants going and that drowned out a lot of the row.

I would estimate that it’s about 65 percent England, 20 percent Norway and 15 percent neutrals in terms of fans inside the stadium.

The fans are doing their best to get their teams going in the humid conditions here.

Lovely play down England’s left as Nico O’Reilly is played in initially but he only has Noni Madueke to find in the box.

He pings his cross to the back post then Madueke drills a cross back across goal, which O’Reilly is on the end of.

O’Reilly does his best to knock it back on goal but that was fizzed into him and the ball is cleared.

Norway’s players are having to work so hard to keep their shape in the heat here.

Erling Haaland and several England players have ice towels around their neck to try and cool down.

England whip in a cross after some nice build-up play and Jude Bellingham is there.

He tries to flick his header towards it but just misses the main connection.

That was a big chance for Bellingham who had a clear sight of that in the box.

England are playing well and are dominating the ball.

Norway can’t keep dropping this deep.

Norway are sitting very deep and frustrating England. Their fans here in Miami are willing them to chase and clear every single ball when they do go to press.

England have pinged the ball out wide to the right to Noni Madueke on numerous occasions but that is what Norway want.

Norway have launched a couple of counter attacks and look sharp when they do get on the ball.

But they’re letting England have it and sitting deep and are extremely organized.

England have completed almost three times more passes than Norway so far and are probing and trying to finds gaps.

Wingers Anthony Gordon and Madueke have to be the difference for England if they’re going to get that crucial first goal.

I was in a tunnel deep beneath the stadium before the game kick off and so many former superstar players all arrived together.

To name a few: Kaka, Cafu, Alessandro Del Piero, Ronaldo Nazario, Radamel Falcao, Ashley Cole, Christian Vieri.

Arsene Wenger was also around and there are so many stars here in Miami to see this.

Speaking to plenty of England fans today, it is clear they are all in on Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Father and daughter Paul and Anoushka Probyn, West Brom fans who have followed England around throughout this tournament, are happy with where the team is at.

“They seem to be growing into the tournament,” Paul Probyn said. “The performance at the Azteca was one of the best we’ve ever seen. I’m confident they will put in a good performance today but Norway, this is their World Cup final today. We need to be just as motivated as they are.”

Anoushka, who we spoke to in Boston before England’s second group game, has been happy with how England have got better as the games have gone on.

“After the group I was thinking we weren’t going to get particularly far at all. Since the last couple of matches I’ve got a bit more hope. It’s hard to see anyone other than France taking it. But teams run out of steam and teams grow into the tournament. It could go either way. It’s all about having the right energy on the right day and we will see what happens.”

This is what the World Cup is all about, folks.

The heat is pretty brutal here in Miami but fans of both England and Norway are in great spirits and getting along very well in the fan areas.

England fans are signing “Football’s coming home again, with Thomas Tuchel!” while Norway’s fans sporadically chant “Norge!” and “Ro! Ro!”

It is a sea of red and white and fans of both teams are feeling very positive.

The mood around England has changed drastically since the start of the tournament as there is a much more positive vibe now.

Norway’s fans and players have absolutely nothing to lose and are in the last eight unexpectedly.

This will be the 13th meeting of these teams dating back to May 14, 1937. As we all remember, England won that match 6-0.

This is the first time they’ve met since 2014, and England have won the last two meetings after enduring a 3D-2L stretch between 1981-95.

Endure is a tough word there. You get the idea.
