Cristhian Mosquera injury news: Mikel Arteta update on Arsenal center back

Arsenal are cursing their bad luck with injuries to center backs and Gunners fans will be sweating on the latest Cristhian Mosquera injury news

The Spanish center back had to go off injured in the first half of their 2-0 win against Brentford on Wednesday as Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he suffered an ankle injury.

He did not feature in their matchday squad on Saturday as Villa and is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks, according to multiple reports including this one from the BBC.

With their two starting center backs William Saliba and Gabriel already watching from the stands due to injury, Arteta obviously did not want to lose Mosquera to injury. Jurrien Timber started in his place at center back and Ben White started at right back against Villa.

Cristhian Mosquera injury news, latest updates

Speaking to reporters after the defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, Arteta gave the following injury update on Mosquera.

“He [Mosquera] is going to be out for weeks. Unfortunately, it’s much more than what we expected, the way he was feeling. So, he’s going to be out for weeks,” Arteta said.

So, it appears Mosquera could be missing for a little while which is a shame as he’s been really solid when coming in for either Saliba or Gabriel early in the season.

That said, Arsenal having Timber available to fill in as a fifth-choice center back is quite the luxury and Calafiori is a sixth-choice center back. Their squad is stacked but defensive injuries are piling up and we saw it take its toll at Villa.
