Enzo Maresca reaction
On the comeback and the performance: “Very proud of the players. In this stadium 2-0 down at half time, I don’t think many teams can do what the players have done. Overall happy with the second half. First half we have to do many things better,” Maresca told BBC Match of the Day.
On the problem in the first half: “The problem was conceding the goal after three minutes. This is the problem. In this kind of stadium against this team, it is so important the beginning of the game. When you concede then the game goes in the wrong direction for us. At half time we adjust some things and second half was much better.”
On the importance of Reece James’ free kick: “The goal we scored at the beginning of the second half helped a lot in terms of confidence and everything. Again, I think even after the second goal we scored we had some chances to win the game, they had also some chances. Nice game for the people at home.”
On both teams going for it and trying to win it late on: “Exactly. At the end we can both be happy but the intention from both teams was to try to win.”
On the equalizer from Joao Pedro: “Nice goal. Nice ball from Robert [Sanchez]. The way they press, they are man-to-man so in the moment we go long if we are able to beat our man it’s a chance and Joao did a fantastic job.”
On the belief and confidence the comeback can give: “Absolutely. 2-0 down half time, it’s very difficult, with the noise, the environment and everything. But we did it.”
