Fulham confirms summer friendly with DC United in Jacksonville
Whether they stay up or not, Fulham will be coming to the United States this summer.
Not really a surprise.
New owner Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, confirmed last summer that Fulham would play in Jacksonville in 2014. Now we have confirmation.
“There is great passion in the Jacksonville area for soccer,” Khan said. “This will be a rare opportunity to see our Fulham team play in Jacksonville, and against one of the premier professional franchises in American soccer.”
With a major overhaul under way for EverBank Field, it’s possible their new scoreboard display network will be available for the match, which features a total of 55,000 square feet of video board throughout the stadium, more than any other NFL stadium.
Other upgrades to the stadium include cabana seating and wading pools.
For DC United, the match will be sandwiched by MLS league games against Chivas USA (before) and Toronto FC (after).
Jacksonville is also the home of the USMNT World Cup tuneup against Nigeria on June 7. It’s unclear if the stadium renovations will be done by then or if the Fulham/DC United friendly will debut them.
