A few weeks back we wrote about the deepest midfield in MLS – and we circled the Houston Dynamo.

A few folks from Real Salt Lake took umbrage. And, yes, the men of Utah have a midfield that is deep, talented and wonderfully balanced in terms of age. Several skilled veterans are sitting alongside some remarkably promising youngsters.

But Houston has depth and experience. The proof was there last night at the Home Depot Center.

The team’s top man, Brad Davis, was out due to suspension. No matter, because the Dynamo’s Scottish winger, who has looked so impressive at every opportunity this year was there to fill the gap.

Andrew Driver (pictured) looks like a man who could start at most MLS teams. He comes off the bench for Houston when everyone is healthy and available.

As for last night, Driver was available to drive one past LA Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini. That was the only goal (in a 1-0 Dynamo victory) against a team still missing DP striker Robbie Keane and left back Todd Dunivant, and it was the one that helped Houston overturn a recent history of setback inside the Home Depot Center. (The Dynamo has seen its season end at the building in Carson three of the last four years.)

The other talking point here is Landon Donovan, who missed another penalty kick. More on that later. For now, the highlights of last night’s match in Southern California.
