Highlights and context: Houston’s draw with SKC

Brad Davis 2

It’s safe to say Houston does not harbor big fear of the Blue Hell of or the Cauldron or any of the other noisy and potentially harrowing elements of Livestrong Sporting Park.

Last night’s match probably feels more like a loss than a draw for Houston due to the way it played out. Dominic Kinnear’s visitors were about 120 seconds from a massive three points in the Friday clash with Sporting Kansas City.

But some shabby marking near goal left C.J. Sapong alone at the far post, and Eastern Conference leading Sporting KC escaped with a 1-1 draw.

Still, in the big picture, Houston surely feels OK about its ability to pull results from the heartland. After all, they’ve gone into Livestrong three times in the last 10 months and haven’t left with a loss.

Last year’s playoff stunner in the Eastern Conference championship was the real kick up SKC’s backside. That one surely hurt.

This year, two trips into suburban Kansas City has yielded two draws for Houston. Never mind the home team’s dominance last night, the bottom line must leave Kinnear’s men in orange confident in their ability to go get another result out of Livestrong. And that is critical, since it looks more and more like the Eastern Conference crown goes through Kansas City.

Here are the highlights from last night’s 1-1 contest, as Sapong’s goal matched Brad Davis’ earlier, swell strike.
