The semi-finals of the League Cup are set with Liverpool getting Chelsea and Tottenham facing League One side Sheffield United.
Anfield will be the site for the first leg of the competition during the week of January 19th with Chelsea serving as host for the second leg the following week.
The Reds qualified for the semi-finals with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Championship side Bournemouth, who many thought might give the Reds a run for their money. The Cherries were competitive but couldn’t overcome two goals from Raheem Sterling and a solo effort from Lazar Markovic. Chelsea qualified for the semi-finals by knocking off Derby County 3-1 on Tuesday behind goals from Eden Hazard, Filipe Luis and Andre Schurrle.
In the other semi-final Spurs will host Sheffield United in the first leg on the week of January 19th before Bramall Lane serves as the site for the return leg the following week.
Tottenham secured their spot in the final four by trouncing Newcastle 4-0 at White Hart Lane through goals by Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado. Sheffield continued their Cup magic with a 1-0 upset win over Southampton on Tuesday with Marc McNulty netting the lone strike.
