The big news from the Manchester derby comes before the match, as there will be no Robin van Persie for Manchester United at City of Manchester Stadium.

Reportedly injured, van Persie doesn’t make the squad as red-hot Wayne Rooney gets the start at the striker position in front of Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck. Moyes said before the match that the Dutchman has a bit of a groin strain, and will miss one of the biggest matches of the season for the title defenders.

For City, Edin Dzeko only makes the bench for the second straight week as Manuel Pellegrini elects to put Sergio Aguero up front supported by the trio of Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri, and Alvaro Negredo.

Lineups:

Manchester City - Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov; Fernadinho, Toure; Nasri, Navas, Negredo; Aguero.
Bench - Pantilimon, Lescott, Richards, Garcia, Jovetic, Milner, Dzeko.

Manchester United - De Gea; Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Valencia, Fellaini, Young; Welbeck, Rooney.
