So we all knew it was coming, but the Los Angeles Galaxy and Major League Soccer have officially confirmed the signing of Landon Donovan to a “multi-year contract.”
No actual length has been given yet, but Sports Illustrated’s Brian Straus is reporting the contract is worth around $4.5 million per year, and could eclipse $5 million with bonuses.
“This organization has always treated me with the utmost respect” said Donovan. “I feel truly blessed that I am able to continue playing here. The opportunity to play with the team I love and work to win championships, in front of wonderful fans while also being close to my family is literally a dream come true.”
Not surprisingly, the Major League Soccer article announcing the extension confirmed he turned down more than one offer from clubs overseas looking to poach him from MLS.
There will be much more reaction here in the coming hours regarding this information, but for now, you can be sure that the USMNT legend is going to be sticking around stateside from a while longer.
