Pep Guardiola to Bayern Munich? Just speculation, but ...

If you actually read Luca Toni’s words, it seems like a bit of stretch to say that former Barcelona guiding light Pep Guardiola is “expressing interest” in coaching at Bayern Munich.

That said, Bayern Munich is Germany’s most recognized club. And it is one of Europe’s traditional powers. The Allianz Arena is one of the glistening delights among the modern European Arenas, sight of last spring’s UEFA Champions League final, in fact.

So it’s not much a stretch to see Guardiola eventually landing in Bavaria. He’s currently on sabbatical in New York, but everyone expects him to be back in top-level soccer sooner or later. The man is only 41. Heck, Brad Friedel is the same age, and he’s still playing!

Fueling the newest round of “Where’s Pep going?” are comments from the former Bayern Munich striker Toni, a friend of the recent Barca boss. What he told Germany’s Bild am Sonntag:

He asked me before about FC Bayern. I believe that the club’s philosophy would suit him, and he is a very good coach who could be perfect for them. He would add something extra to the German mentality.”

The contract of current Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes, 67, ends this season and he has reportedly told the club that he will not sign an extension. So, marry those two elements and … you get headlines like today’s.

It sounds like speculation – but it doesn’t sound so far-fetched, either.
