ProSoccerTalk’s daily soccer re-set

Herculez Gomez

What we’re thinking, what we’re watching, what’s coming on the blog today and the RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day). Setting up your day in soccer …

Birthdays of Note: Three of the best touches I (or a whole big bunch of other people) have ever seen in the game came from Dennis Bergkamp. Against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, the Dutch striker needed one sublime touch to settle Frank de Boer’s 60-yard pass, another shifty little touch guide the ball past defender Roberto Ayala and a third to fire a sizzling volley past the goalkeeper for a quarterfinal equalizer and eventual triumph. Bergkamp, now coaching at Arsenal, turns 43 today. (Watch it below)

Ahead on the blog today*: More on the big stadium opening in Houston, and we’re getting closer to the U.S. national team camp in Orlando ahead of five important international matches.

What we should all be watching on TV: Tigres-Santos in a Mexican first-leg semifinal, 8:55 pm on Univision Deportes. You know who plays for Santos, right?

RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day): Steve Ralston

Twitter dap: Kyle Beckerman ‏ (@KyleBeckerman): “A big congrats goes out to CJ Brown. Inducted into the ring of fire. Class act by @ChicagoFire #legend #gladheswithusnow”

PST background noise while blogging today: KXP radio out of Seattle
