Six MLS executives make industry’s 40 Under 40 list

In so many ways, soccer is a young man’s game. Young women’s, too.

Bruce Arena famously told everyone it’s “a young man’s game” back in the 2002 World Cup, when he boldly started a couple of professional pups, Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley.

And it’s the 20- and 30-somethings adding so much rock to the roll in places like Seattle, Portland, Toronto and Philadelphia, where MLS matches are regularly stamped “Sold Out.”

So it really should come as little surprise that soccer’s executive set is peppered and spiced nicely by a younger set. Sports Business Journal’s annual Forty Under 40 list cited six executives attached to the domestic game among the American sports industry’s top 40 executives under the age of 40.

  • Chris McGowan, COO, Los Angeles Galaxy
  • Robb Heineman, President, CEO and co-owner, Sporting Kansas City
  • Bill Hogan, Managing Director, Fenway Sports Management
  • David Nathanson, Executive vice president and General Manager, Fox Soccer
  • Merritt Paulson (shown at right) President and owner, Portland Timbers
  • David Wright, Senior vice president, global sponsorship, MLS/SUM
